Healing Through Art
This young artist is a nine-year-old Silver Lining child. Her mother was stabbed to death in front of her and her younger sister. As a result, her artwork had been related to the trauma that she witnessed. Happily, she has gone from drawing knives to drawing flowers through art classes funded by Kathy’s Legacy Foundation. We are proud of her for embracing a creative outlet to assist her path to healing.
Her younger sister has begun taking art lessons as well and we are thrilled they have both found a creative activity they are passionate about.
Providing nontraditional therapy, along with traditional therapy has helped the children with their journey through trauma and neutralized some of their hopelessness. Therapy comes in many forms and having additional support helps children through their grief journey. This has shown a rise in self-esteem and a better approach to working through therapy. Due to financial constraints, some families are unable to provide these avenues of exploration.
When someone becomes a donor of Kathy’s Legacy Foundation they can be assured their gift is supporting magical moments and milestones that truly make a positive difference in the lives of children of domestic violence homicide.
